For most domains (like .com), you’ll unlock the domain at your current provider and request an authorisation (EPP) code, then start the transfer with us and enter that code to approve it. For domains that end .uk it’s even simpler — you just change the domain’s IPS tag to ours at your current provider after placing your transfer in order, and we handle the rest. It depends on the domain type. .uk domains are usually the quickest — often completing within minutes to a few hours once the IPS tag is changed. Most other domains (like .com) typically take around five to seven days, as this waiting period is set by the domain registries themselves rather than by us. Your domain keeps working normally the whole time, so there’s no rush and nothing to worry about while it completes.

No — your website and email keep working exactly as normal throughout. A transfer simply moves who manages your domain; it doesn’t change where your site or email is hosted, and your existing DNS settings (name servers) come across with it. As long as nothing is changed at the same time, visitors and emails carry on without interruption.

A few standard rules apply, set by the domain registries rather than PAC. A domain usually needs to be at least 60 days old (and 60 days past its last transfer), and it must be unlocked with a valid authorisation code or IPS tag ready. Domains that have expired or are very close to expiry can sometimes need renewing before they’ll transfer.
