Switching from GoDaddy

Moving your website from GoDaddy

GoDaddy is one of the biggest names in hosting, and for plenty of people it works fine. If you’d rather deal with a smaller UK company, where the people answering your ticket can see your server, we’ll move your website across for you, free of charge.

  • Free migration — our UK team moves your website for you
  • Your site stays live at GoDaddy until everything is tested
  • Plans from £7/month ex VAT, with no renewal price jump
  • Twice-daily backups, kept for 30 days
  • 24/7 tickets answered within an hour, plus UK phone support

Why people move from GoDaddy to PAC

A price that doesn’t jump

GoDaddy’s Economy plan is advertised at £3.99/month for the first year, then renews at £8.99/month1. Its free SSL certificate is also first-year only, then £89.99 a year1. Our SSL certificates are free for as long as you host with us.

A UK company, start to finish

GoDaddy is a US company based in Arizona4, and it describes its hosting as running in data centres across North America and Europe1. PAC is a UK company that has been hosting websites since 2007.

Fewer upsells

Our plans include unlimited email accounts (sharing your plan’s storage), twice-daily backups, SSL and room for several websites. You don’t have to add them on at checkout.

GoDaddy and PAC side by side

Here are the entry-level plans, compared using facts from GoDaddy’s own website.

Entry plan GoDaddy PAC Personal
Signup price £3.99/month for the first year1 £7/month, or £70/year
Renewal price £8.99/month1 Same price. No introductory discount, so no jump at renewal
SSL certificate Free for year one, then £89.99/year1 Free, always
Support 24/7 phone and chat2 24/7 tickets (1-hour response) plus UK phone support, weekdays 9am–5:30pm

Control panel cPanel1 Enhance, with LiteSpeed Enterprise web server
Company GoDaddy Inc., Tempe, Arizona, USA4 PAC Web Hosting Ltd, independent UK company since 2007

GoDaddy’s UK site doesn’t say whether these prices include VAT. Its separate cheap hosting page also shows a 3-year Economy deal at a different price5. Details checked 6 October 2026. See the sources at the bottom of this page.

What our free migration includes

  • Your website files and databases, copied across by our team rather than a plugin you have to wrestle with.
  • Your email accounts, moved so your messages and folders come with you.

  • A test before anything goes live. We check the site on our servers before your domain is pointed at us.
  • The DNS switch, timed to keep disruption to a minimum.
  • Your domain transfer, if you want to move it too. Free with qualifying domains.

How to move from GoDaddy, step by step

  1. Order your PAC planChoose a plan and tell us you’re coming from GoDaddy. Leave your GoDaddy hosting running for now.
  2. We copy your siteWith your GoDaddy cPanel login, or a full cPanel backup if you’d rather send that, we copy your files, databases and mailboxes to our servers and test everything.
  3. Point your domain at usOnce you’re happy, we give you the nameservers or DNS records to change in GoDaddy’s domain settings. Visitors start arriving at the new server, usually within a few hours.
  4. Move the domain (optional)For a .com or similar, first turn off Domain Privacy and set Domain Protection to none. Then unlock the domain and request the authorisation code3. For a .uk domain there’s no code: you change its IPS tag to ours (we’ll give you it), and as a Nominet accredited registrar we pick it up directly.
  5. Cancel GoDaddy lastOnly cancel your GoDaddy hosting once your site and email have run happily with us for a few days. Remember to turn off auto-renew too.

When staying with GoDaddy might make more sense

We’d rather you moved for the right reasons. It may not be worth switching:

  • If 24/7 phone support matters to you. Our phones are staffed in UK office hours, while tickets are answered 24/7 within an hour.
  • If you’ve just prepaid a multi-year GoDaddy term. You may not get a refund for unused years, so it can make sense to move nearer the renewal date. We can still plan it with you now.

Not sure? Ask us and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Questions about leaving GoDaddy

Will my website go offline while it moves?

No. Your site keeps running at GoDaddy while we copy and test it on our servers. The only change is when your domain is pointed at us, and both servers stay live while that spreads across the internet.

Do I have to move my domain away from GoDaddy too?

No. You can keep the domain registered at GoDaddy and just point it at our servers. Many customers move the domain later, so everything is in one place.

How do I transfer a .co.uk domain from GoDaddy?

In your GoDaddy account, change the domain’s IPS tag to PAC’s tag, which we’ll give you when you order. GoDaddy’s own tag is GODADDY. There’s no authorisation code for .uk domains.

Does PAC use cPanel like GoDaddy?

Our shared hosting runs on Enhance, a modern control panel, with LiteSpeed web servers. We do the migration from cPanel for you, so you don’t need to learn anything before the move.

How much does the migration cost?

Nothing. Website migration is free when you buy a PAC hosting plan.
