- Cancel the old hostOnce everything has run smoothly for a few days, cancel your old hosting and turn off its auto-renew.
Before you cancel anything
- Check your renewal date. If you’ve prepaid several years, ask your current host about refunds before you move.
- Find out where your domain’s DNS lives. It’s often with your domain registrar, but not always. We’ll help you check.
- Check the domain transfer rules for your extension. A .com can’t usually be transferred within 60 days of registration or a previous transfer. A .uk domain moves with a simple IPS tag change, with no code and no lock period.
- Watch out for website builders. Sites made with a host’s own drag-and-drop builder can’t be copied as-is and usually need rebuilding. We’ll tell you honestly what’s involved.

Is website migration really free?
Yes. When you buy a PAC hosting plan, our team moves your website for free. That covers your files and databases, plus your email accounts.
Will my website go down during the move?
Your site stays live with your current host while we copy and test it. When your domain is pointed at us, both servers run side by side until the change has spread, so visitors don’t hit a dead page.
Do I need to move my domain name as well?
No. You can leave your domain where it is and just point it at us. If you’d like everything in one place, we can transfer it too. As a Nominet accredited registrar, we handle .uk domains directly.
How long does a migration take?
Most single websites are moved and tested within a working day or two of us receiving access. Larger or more complex sites take longer, and we’ll agree a timetable with you first.
What do I need to give you?
Usually a login for your current hosting control panel, or a full backup if you prefer, plus access to wherever your domain’s DNS is managed. We’ll tell you exactly what’s needed for your host.
What if I change my mind?
