Why people move from IONOS to PAC
Knowing who you’re dealing with
IONOS is part of the German United Internet group, based in Montabaur3. PAC is a small, independent UK company that has been hosting since 2007, and the same team looks after your account year after year.
Speed for WordPress
Our shared hosting runs on LiteSpeed Enterprise, with LiteSpeed Cache for WordPress, on NVMe storage. It’s built for fast WordPress and WooCommerce sites.
More than one daily backup
IONOS includes a daily backup1. We back up twice a day, keep backups for 30 days, and store them in the UK and EU.
IONOS and PAC side by side
Here are the entry-level plans, compared using facts from IONOS’s own website.

What our free migration includes
- Your website files and databases, copied across by our team rather than a plugin you have to wrestle with.
- Your email accounts, moved so your messages and folders come with you.
- A test before anything goes live. We check the site on our servers before your domain is pointed at us.
- The DNS switch, timed to keep disruption to a minimum.
- Your domain transfer, if you want to move it too. Free with qualifying domains.
How to move from IONOS, step by step
- Order your PAC planChoose a plan and tell us you’re coming from IONOS. Keep your IONOS contract running until the move is finished.
- We copy your siteWe copy your website files, databases and mailboxes across and test everything on our servers. If you use the IONOS website builder rather than WordPress or your own files, talk to us first: builder sites usually need rebuilding rather than moving.
- Point your domain at usWe give you the DNS records or nameservers to set in your IONOS domain settings, then confirm everything is working.
- Move the domain (optional)For a .com or similar, go to Domains, then Renewal & Transfer, then Show Authorisation Code4. For a .uk domain, change the IPS tag from IONOS’s own tag (1AND1, 1AND1-IONOS or IONOS)5 to ours. As a Nominet accredited registrar, we pick it up directly.
- Cancel IONOS lastOnce your site and email have been running with us for a few days, cancel your IONOS contract. Check your contract’s notice period first.
When staying with IONOS might make more sense
We’d rather you moved for the right reasons. It may not be worth switching:
- If the lowest monthly price is what matters most. IONOS Standard renews at £6/month ex VAT, below our £7. What we offer for the difference is support from people who know your site, twice-daily backups and LiteSpeed speed.
- If your site was built with the IONOS website builder. It can’t be exported as-is, so moving means rebuilding it, for example in WordPress. We’re happy to talk that through honestly first.
Not sure? Ask us and we’ll give you a straight answer.
Questions about leaving IONOS
Can PAC move a site built with the IONOS website builder?
Builder sites are tied to IONOS’s platform and can’t be copied directly. We can help you rebuild it in WordPress, but we’ll tell you up front what’s involved.
How do I transfer a .co.uk domain away from IONOS?
Change the domain’s IPS tag in your IONOS account to PAC’s tag, which we’ll give you when you order. There’s no authorisation code for .uk domains, and the change is usually quick.
Will my email keep working during the move?
Yes. We copy your mailboxes first and only switch your domain’s mail records once everything is in place, so you don’t lose messages.
Do I need a long contract with PAC?
No. You can pay monthly or yearly, and there are no long contracts. Every plan comes with a 60-day money-back guarantee.
How much does the migration cost?
Nothing. Website migration is free when you buy a PAC hosting plan.
Moving from somewhere else? See our guides for GoDaddy or 123-reg, or read how switching to PAC works.
Ready to leave IONOS?
Pick a plan, tell us where your site is now, and we’ll handle the move. If you change your mind, you have 60 days to get your money back.
